Obituary of Ray Laverne Blum
Ray was born in Marysville, CA to Albert and Goldie Marie Blum. He attended Franklin High School in Portland, and Linfield College in McMinnville, and served in the US Army between high school and college.Ray met the love of his life, Helen Ann Shearman, in 1951. They had a whirlwind 3-month courtship and were married May 5, 1951.They had 5 children and raised them in Portland, Oregon. Ray loved the Oregon coast and after he retired, they built a home in Lincoln City and enjoyed 15 years there. Ray worked at Fraser Paper Company, starting out in the warehouse and ending as the company Comptroller before retiring. After retirement Ray and Helen moved to Lincoln City where he went back to work at Partain Construction Company.He loved all sports, and was a star baseball pitcher in high school and college.He had his eye on the big league but threw one too many snowballs and that dream vanished. Ray is survived by his wife Helen, Children Linda Aeder, Michael Blum, James Blum, MaryAnn Skach, and Suzanne Sutherland. Grandchildren: Brian Ehrig, Patrick Aeder, TJ Aeder, Stefanie Miller, Christopher Blum, Brett Blum, Jeremy Trullinger, Matt Blum, Peter Blum, Daryl Larson, David Blum, Melissa Clark, Sarah Telahun, Adam Skach, Emily Leggatt, Stephen Sutherland, David Sutherland, Alex Sutherland. Great-grandchildren: Rohan, Uma, Lucy, Alden, Everett, Kellen, Zahara, Camden, Briar, Brian, Abigail, Brenden, Kaylie, Parker, Daphne, Lonnie, Skylar, Colbey, Ashley, Ruby, Hayes and Adler. Great-great grandchildren: Bently. Ray is preceded in death by his father Albert and mother Goldie Marie, a daughter Theresa, and his brother Larry.
