Obituary of Kenneth W. Carter
Born 1.24.25 In Onalaska, Washington Ken was the 3rd son of William Thomas Carter of Riply, Mississippi, and Estha Whitham of Custer County, Nebraska. He grew up in Portland, Oregon and graduated from Multnomah Elementary School in 1938. From there, Ken attended Benson High School then enlisted in the US Navy in 1943. He served on the USS Antietam during WWII. Following that, he was hired by the Portland Fire Bureau in 1949 and served as a lieutenant, retiring after 25 years, in 1975. In 1980, he and Lora served in the Peace Corps Philippines for 2 years. Ken enjoyed 44 years of retirement with activities like camping, fishing, and pursuing his hobby of painting and teaching watercolors. He is survived by Lora (Warner), wife of 72 years, and 4 sons, (Dana, Paul, Sean and Joe), 10 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren, plus many nieces and nephews.
