Obituary of Doris Gretchen Pauly

Doris was born November 16th, 1932, the youngest of sixteen children. She grew up on a farm during the depression on the outskirts of Portland, Oregon. She had many fond memories of her childhood and the farm life, from wonderful meals and Sunday family gatherings to the security she felt from her loving parents along with her many brothers and sisters. She also enjoyed helping her father around the farm with daily chores like milking the cows, feeding the animals and cleaning the stalls. She said the only chore she didn’t care for was churning the milk. Doris graduated with honors from Washington High School and was in the National Honor Society. Soon after, she married and travelled to Japan where she adopted three very young children. Two, she was bringing back for her sister. She adopted another little girl soon after after she returned to the states. She divorced when her children were young and became a single parent. She worked a couple different jobs before working for a group of neurosurgeons and neurologists for the next thirty years as a bookkeeper and office Manager. During that period of time, she wisely invested in properties and worked hard fixing up older homes. She had wonderful taste and a sense of design and was financially successful in all her endeavors. After her retirement she enjoyed estate buying, day drives and spending time with family. Doris had beautiful exhibits all over her home from her past adventures and estate finds. She also enjoyed gourmet cooking and gardening. She was well-travelled and travelled to Germany to visit friends and to trace her family roots and saw a lot of Europe. She has visited Mexico several times, Hawaii and several other tropical locations. Besides her busy career, Doris was a devoted and loving mother to her adopted children and always put their needs before herself. She was also a devoted daughter and sister to her huge family. She was not only a caregiver to her mother, but also for two other sisters. She sacrificed most of her life helping others and giving of her time selflessly. Doris leaves behind one sister; Winifred Pauly; her two children, John Morioka; Dianna Flournoy and her devoted son-in-law, Billy Flournoy; her only grandchild, Regina Gregory and her husband Steve Gregory; her great grandchildren, Ariel and Mason Gregory; her nieces and nephews; Paula and Oran Abbott; Mark and Judy Tate; Robert Tate; David Hopkins; Larry David Euchi and Shawna Floistad; Tom and Cindy Marek and Caroline Ann Haddigan. Doris had some very loving caregivers the last couple years of her life. A special thank you to Lidia Bernat and her husband and also to Stephanie Harrington with Tiffany and Oshea’s for truly caring about our mother, giving her the best care possible while preserving the dignity that she so deserved. And the biggest blessing of all, keeping her happy to her last day here!! She will be missed very much by her family and those that had the special privilege of knowing this intelligent, strong and special woman!
