Obituary of Marlene Diane Salstrom

Marlene was survived by her Daughters Linda and Alice, her 6 grandchildren Shawn, Melissa, Joe, Morgan, Jolene, and Jessica, 4 Grand In-law children Jennifer and Travis, Nick B, Nick D Marlene had ten great grandchildren Breann, Carissa, Kloie, Madison, Kendall, Savannah, Noah, Fiona she and had two sons Rodney and Randy who preceded her in death. Marlene was adopted in 1932 by Dr. Leonard and Mazie Purkey. Marlene married her high school sweet heart Joseph William Salstrom Jr. March 1949. She attended Fulton Park Elementary school and graduated from Lincoln High school. After high school Marlene started her 30+ year career as a school bus driver. She worked for Raz before moving on to Beaverton School District were, she worked 30+ years before retiring. While working for the Beaverton School district she played a very Important part in the contract negotiations in getting the bus drivers Sick time, vacation time and other essential time needed. Marlene was Awarded the Million-Mile plaque. Marlene was loved by everyone at the school district. Marlene was very talented in many ways. She raised half Arabs, started her own baking company where she baked cakes and goodies for different events and family members. She had a passion for sewing and crochet which she shared with her family. She also had a love for puzzles. Marlene had love for animals her favorite horse Mi-Joline which was named after her and her high school sweet heart. She loved to show Mi-Joline. She had a lifelong partner named Winnie which was her dog. She also had a cat named Willow. Marlene was known to everyone as Mum which she was given her nickname by her Grandson Shawn. She made an impact on everyone’s life that she came in contact with. She liked to play Bingo, Bunko, hunting with her grandson and/ or Jed. Marlene had a very big heart and a love for her family. Her grandchildren always held a special place in her heart. Funeral services will be held at: Grace Point Community Church 11075 SW Gaarde St. Tigard, OR 97224 The service will be Saturday, March 16th at 1:00pm. Viewing at 12:30pm.
