Obituary of Eleanor Reddick

Eleanor Reddick, “an amazing woman and treasured friend”, rejoined her Creator on March 1, 2020 at age 64. Her last couple of years had been difficult in terms of her health but, always strong, she fought bravely and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Eleanor was born the 5th of five children of Barney and Catherine Haley in Havre, Montana. In her fifth year, the family moved to Oregon, where she began grade school. Three years later, the children lost their father after a long illness. She started high school at Beaverton High. In her Junior year, following the sudden death of her mother, she moved to live with her sister, Carlisle, in Berkeley, California. She graduated from Berkeley High School. Eleanor earned her Bachelors in Education from Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon. She married Jerry Reddick and they moved to a small farm in Newberg, filled with creatures big and small. That marriage was blessed with two daughters, Haley and Alison. Because of her strong feelings that children have individual learning needs, Eleanor first taught at an alternative school and after her children were born, opened a school for a small group of students in her home. Always dedicated to a positive future, Eleanor went on to offer 30 plus years to teaching Newberg’s children. Her career was summed up by a friend: “A clear, deep and never-ending dedication to her children. And that did not mean just her own children. Eleanor spent her life working to instill intelligence, confidence and love in so many hundreds of young people, probably thousands.” Eleanor’s passion was always reflected in her dedication to her daughters and, later, their husbands. In her last decade, this was expanded to include her joy being around and caring for her four wonderful grandchildren. She found that real beauty was in nature, surrounding herself by green trees and centering her time with family at the lake. This “…strong and ethical woman, dedicated to her family and to the greater good of her community”, “a woman of grace and wisdom”, was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her sister Mary (Haley) Baker. She is survived by her daughters, Haley Scott (Michael) and Alison Plummer (Ben), her grandchildren Brandon and Collin Scott and Evelyn and Camilla Plummer; her sister Carlisle Peel and brothers Jim and Charles Haley; and multiple cousins, nieces and nephews, and friends. There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, March 14, 2020, at The Old Schoolhouse at 23945 NE North Valley Road, Newberg, Oregon at 2:00 in the afternoon.
