Obituary of Romanus Theodore Winkels

Romanus “Ted” Winkels, 76, passed away on December 24, 2019. He was born in Ontario, Oregon to Frank and Eva Winkels. Growing up in Baker, Oregon he graduated from St. Francis Academy and then attended Boise State University. He served 3 years in the Army including a tour in Korea. In 1969 he married Barbara Dean and together they raised their family of four children; John, Scott, Craig and Laura while living in Milwaukie, Oregon. He was a devoted husband spending several years provided exceptional care for his wife Barbara after a life altering accident in 1999. He loved his many grandchildren dearly and never missed an opportunity to share his admiration of them. He was also a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews. Ted enjoyed a successful career in sales for the food industry. He was a long-time parish member of St. John the Baptist where he enjoyed the community. He was an active member of the both the Kiwanas Club and the Knights of Columbus. Ted is survived by his four children, John of Huntington Beach, CA, Scott of Tigard, Craig of Alexandria, VA, and daughter Laura of Portland. He is also survived by his 10 grandchildren, and his brother and sisters, George Winkels, Eunice Winkels, Donna Sherman and Shirley Long. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Dean Winkels; his parents, Frank and Eva Winkels; and sisters: Joann Christie, Betty Shrum and Mary Francis. Ted will be forever remembered for his caring heart and unconditional love of his family and friends. A Funeral Mass for Ted will be held at 11 a.m, Thursday, January 2, 2020, at St. John The Baptist at 10955 SE 25th Ave, Milwaukie. Reception immediately following Mass in the Parish Hall. A Rite of Committal Service will be held at Willamette National Cemetery on Monday, January 6 at 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Autumn Funerals in Tigard.
