Obituary of Daleen Rae Harris
Daleen was born on March 30, 1947, to Dale and Betty(Sellard) Boyd in Salem, Oregon. Daleen (Boyd) Harris was the eldest of three children. Daleen's earlier years were spent in Salem, later moving with her family to Grants Pass. Daleen graduated from Grants Pass High School in 1965. During her high school years Daleen worked as an aide at Josephine General Hospital, Daleen was later promoted to the Maternity ward assisting with newborn babies. In 1965 Daleen married Kent Higginbotham, Daleen and Kent had two children Jeff and Crystal. In 1972 they moved their family to Eugene then Corvallis. Daleen continued to work in health care while Kent pursued a degree. Moving to the Portland area in 1978 and settling in the Beaverton area where Daleen remained until her passing. Daleen worked throughout her life. Working at Oroweat Bakery for several years before becoming an entrepreneur and starting her own bakery business. Working with her daughter Crystal and focusing on sugar-free creations for diabetics. The business was one of her fondest achievements. bakery was a favorite in the Portland area. Daleen eventually returned to health care, where she began caring for The Sisters at Our Lady of Peace. In 1995 Daleen and Crystal opened Compassionate Care, a private elderly care home, catering to elderly patients in need of care from injuries or those unable to live alone. Daleen operated the business until her retirement in 2016. Throughout her life, Daleen's family meant the world to her, as did the friends she made throughout life. A favorite of hers was lunch with friends or family at a local diner or a drive for lunch in Helvetia. An avid gardener, many days Daleen could be found sitting on her porch drinking coffee, surrounded by the flowers and shrubs she cultivated, chatting with family, friends, and neighbors. Travel was also one of her great enjoyments, with Hawaii being a favorite along with New Orleans and the Cayman Islands topping the list. Daleen had two granddaughters, Shelby and Taylor. She was extremely proud of them, loved spending time with them and following their activities. Working opposite her daughter allowed Daleen a unique opportunity to take part in Taylor and Shelby early lives on a daily basis, until starting school they spent weekday mornings at Daleens. This time spent with grandma has provided both granddaughters with a variety of memories. From Taylor - sleepovers at her house, eating ice cream in bed, antique shopping, looking at her plants with her and watching her sing and dance to Neil Diamond. From Shelby- I remembered that when I would get stuck writing essays in school I would often call grandma to ask for advice on word choice or how to phrase an idea that I wanted to convey- As a child she would always humor me in my obsession with farms, taking me to the local feed-and-seed store and saying that someday we would have a farm together. Daleen is preceded in death by her mother and father, survived by son Jeff Higginbotham of Missouri and daughter Crystal Doherty and husband Sean Doherty of beaverton. along with her granddaughter's Shelby Doherty of Bellingham and Taylor Doherty of Beaverton. by her sister, Peggy, and (Randy) Payne of battleground and her brother Loren & wife Chris Boyd of Medford as well as Daleen's niece Tiffani Erdman of Texas. Known for her sassy personality and great laughter, she had a great love and understanding of her family. Daleen will be missed by all that knew and loved her. Daleen passed peacefully, Daleen went to meet her Heavenly Father on August 30, 2020, Succumbing from COVID-19. services and a celebration of life to be held at a future date.
