Obituary of Diane W. Lukens
Diane W Lukens died of natural causes on May 28th, 2019 at her home in Beaverton, Oregon. She would have been 80yrs old on August 7th. She was born in Springfield, Illinois to John and Margaret Milburn. She was the third child in a family that grew to six children. In the 1940's the family relocated to Vancouver, Washington for work for her father in the steel mills. After the war, the family moved to Estacada, SE Portland and finally settling in NE Portland. Diane was an excellent student and developed an early love of reading and writing that would remain with her throughout her life. She was known and loved for her caring cards and letters sent to family and friends for all occasions or just for fun. In 1960 Diane met and married Darwyn Lukens and they enjoyed a long and happy marriage until his death in 2016. They and their three children moved several times over the years due to Dar's work, living in Portland, Salem, La Grande, Columbus Ohio, Chicago Illinois and finally retiring in Beaverton, Oregon. During these growing years, Diane was a full time wife, Mother, Scout Troop leader, carpooler, and Barbie clothes maker. She developed great sewing skills and became excellent at Nordic Hardanger embroidery and quilting In her retirement she took up Hula dancing and studying Hawaiian culture. She and Darwyn enjoyed many adventures traveling to Hawaii, Europe, England, Scotland, cruising the Caribbean and Panama Canal. Diane was especially interested in England and its history since her maternal grandmother was from there. During all these trips and hobbies Diane made many friends and remained close to them up to her last days. She was predeceased by her brothers, David and Charlie. She is survived by her children, Lynn Ray, Jeffrey Lukens, Patrick (Tammy) Lukens. By grandchildren: Justin Lukens, Christine Ray, Patrick & Paige Lukens and by great grandchildren Scarlett and Spencer. She is also survived by her sisters, Johnette & Patricia & brother Terry. She was a center heart of our family and will be dearly missed.
